Las Vegas High School
A public high school in the Clark County School District, Las Vegas High School is the oldest high school in Las Vegas. When it originally opened in 1931, it was on the outskirts of town, and today it is a landmark in Las Vegas that represents the best of the Art Deco architecture of the 1930s. The school’s outside appearance has been maintained, but the interior has been updated and kept modern with the times. One alumnus of the school was Lieutenant William Harrell Nellis for which the Nellis Air Force Base was named. During the late 1980s, the school district decided to build a new larger campus on the east side of Clark County, but the original buildings are now the home to the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts, which opened in 1993.
