Las Vegas Nevada Temple
On the eastern edge of the city, the Las Vegas Nevada Temple, the 43rd operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is a spiritual beacon in Sin City. Its six soaring spires rise from the building and echo the arresting red desert peaks of nearby Sunrise Mountain while flourishing flowers and trees adorn the verdant grounds. The building of a Mormon temple in the Las Vegas area was announced on April 7, 1984, and it was the first of two temples in Nevada; the second has been built in Reno. Making up about 15 percent of the population of the Las Vegas area, the Mormon Church is a vital part of the region.
